Disney Movies

Walt Disney is a genius.  He created an empire that really will never be matched in quality...at least not in our lifetime.  Cartoons, family films, mixed.  All of em.  If you are having a hard time thinking of all the Disney films out there....Check this out.

Top 3 Disney Movies

(always in no particular order)
Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland...basically the receptacle for out of control disney characters.  True family entertainment. Also my favorite "classic" disney cartoon.  Best part?  Nobody dies.

PS...Dear Johnny Depp, stop remaking kids films.  Sincerely, Reality

The Mighty Ducks
The Mighty Ducks is a Disney Movie (technically).  Lets break down what makes it a Disney Film...Misfit kids + loser coach x over-inflated opponent - animated talking puppy = Disney Film.  The fact that it adds in that "coming-of-age"motif pretty much seals the deal.  Anybody who saw that movie when they were a kid, thought that the flying V would work in any situation and if you didnt rock out in the theater to the Queen closer...then you have no soul.  (The video clip here sucks....because I couldnt find a better clip)

The Lion King
The Lion King.  So many elements of this movie that make it great.  Some could argue its the Bambi theme rehashed, but I really do get attached to these characters.  Outstanding soundtrack, fun family entertainment, and a legendary cast (Jeremy Irons as Scar couldnt have been better cast).  Honorable Mentions to  Darth Vader for Mufasa and Mr. Bean as Zazu.  Bonus points for this film being adapted to a theater production that was absolutely amazing.

Next weeks Topic: Overrated (Hint: One of them stars Al Pacino)

Excited for next week. Took me half a second to guess your Al Pacino hint, but I won't ruin the surprise.

You can really tell the age difference based on these answers...

Now I want to preface this and say that I have seen "most" of the films that Disney has created and made it a point to see most of them. You could even break Disney films down to many difference categories (Top Disney Animated, Top Disney Real Life, etc) But if I had to pick top Disney films (all kind) I would go with:

Toy Story - This was revolutionary to the whole CGI world. Seeing a full movie made in total CGI, and done well, changed how movies "could" be made... Not to mention how they can easily make CGI look realistic. Not to mention my nickname as a kid was Woody and my best friends Nickname was Buzz... so it was appropro for me....

I have a hard time with number 2/3... Lion King and Aladdin both defined a large part of my childhood.... and for me to pick one over the other would be extremely hard for me... Lion King marks the end of the traditional method of animation that Disney used. The stampede scene alone in the Lion King took over 7 months to animate. They started to use computer images to help them animate during Aladdin, but after Lion King, the real magic of Disney Animation was lost to me.

Honorable mentions:
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - This being the first animated full featured film that still stands up to time, shows that it at least deserves a mention.

The 1950's of Disney - With Cinderella, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Old Yeller, etc. This defined the power of Disney and how he can truly transcend time...

Really?? No "Beauty and the Beast"? There's something about that movie that is just classic to me. Look at how many times that basic story has been redone - just pure classic. Though I'll take Ashley's "Little Mermaid" as a fair trade.

I also agree that "Toy Story" needs to be a Top 3 - just so incredibly original and innovative.

As for the last one, it's a toss up for me between "Mary Poppins" and "Snow White." I think I'd go with "Mary Poppins" though.

"Fantasia" is another good contender, though I've never been a big fan of it so it's definitely not in my Top 3.
